30×40×1.7” Mixed Media on Wood Panel, 2024

These pieces are a take on my maternal family's sewing and quilting heritage. The arranging of patterned squares being deeply embedded in the small-on-the-surface but intensely wild, holy, and magical lives of the rural farmwives in my Midwestern lineage. These are also the stepping stones for my upcoming (late 2025) show that will explore ancestral mythological storytelling through sewing, stitching and pattern making.

From the director of The Studios of Key West (where many of these were shown at my 2024 solo show):

“Drawing on the language of geometric abstraction, Perreault weaves personal and ancestral stories, landscapes and mythologies into fragmented abstract art through painting, cutting and layering textured paper. Her technique creates a visual language reminiscent of her family's rich quilting heritage, by organizing familiar components into a sculptural dimension that breaks free from the page.”

These works are created by adhering hundreds of small hand-painted pieces to a single white cardboard backer. I paint larger sheets of thick/heavy beautifully textured canvas paper and then cut those sheets up into smaller rectangles (I refer to them as "tiles" even though they are made of paper). Then the tiles are adhered into place with permanent archival clear glue. Only the tops of the tiles are attached to the backer, so it has a layered textural look.

*These "tabs" are securely attached. They aren't going anywhere. The pieces can be cleaned with a duster in the same way you would clean a canvas pieces. They're triple UV sprayed and made with professional acrylics that will not crack or fade.

*These pieces are mounted onto a cradled wood panel with hanging hardware on the back. You can hang the art just like this or you can take it to a framer and have it framed out in a floater frame or acrylic box.

Please feel free to reach out for more photos or any other questions.
